Ledger® Live: Login | Getting Started™ with Ledger®

Quick guide: Download Ledger Live, connect your Ledger device, finish the one-time setup, and secure your recovery phrase — all in a few straightforward steps.

Introduction

Ledger Live is the official desktop and mobile companion app for Ledger hardware wallets. It lets you manage accounts, send and receive cryptocurrency, check portfolio balances, and access supported services — while keeping private keys secured on your Ledger device. This guide walks you through logging in (app access), initial setup, recovery, essential security tips, and useful official resources to keep at hand.

Download & Install Ledger Live

Where to get it

Always download Ledger Live only from Ledger’s official download page to avoid impostor apps or malware. Use the official installer for your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux) or install the app from the official mobile store for Android/iOS as instructed on Ledger’s site.

Step-by-step (download)

  1. Visit the official Ledger Live download page and choose your platform.
  2. Run the downloaded installer and follow on-screen prompts.
  3. When the app opens, you’ll be offered the option to set up a new device or restore from a recovery phrase.
Safety note

Never enter your 24-word recovery phrase into any app or website. If any interface asks for it, stop and assume it’s a scam. Ledger Live itself never requests the full recovery phrase during normal login/usage.

Initial Setup & Login (Ledger Live workflow)

Connect your Ledger device

Connect your Ledger hardware wallet to your computer or mobile using the supplied USB cable (or Bluetooth for supported devices) and unlock it with your PIN.

Create or restore an account

Follow Ledger Live prompts to either create a new device (generate a new recovery phrase on the device only) or restore existing accounts using your 24-word recovery phrase on the device itself. Ledger Live stores settings and account metadata on your computer or phone, but your private keys remain on the hardware device.

Logging in vs. restoring

There is no traditional email/password "login" to Ledger Live for device management — the Ledger device and PIN control account access locally. If you see requests for email/password related to seed phrases, verify the UI and source carefully.

Recovery & Backup

Recovery phrase basics

The recovery phrase (usually 24 words) is the only backup of your private keys. Write it down on the official recovery sheet provided with your device, store it offline in a secure place, and never share it. Ledger offers additional products and guidance on secure recovery processes.

Using Ledger Recovery Key

Ledger documents advanced recovery options (Ledger Recovery Key) and white papers that describe the architecture and security considerations for backing up and restoring secrets. Consult official white papers and support articles before using any recovery tooling.

Security Best Practices

Troubleshooting (common issues)

App won’t detect device

Check cables, reconnect the device, ensure device is unlocked, and allow any OS prompts. If using Bluetooth, verify pairing settings.

Fake app warnings

Be aware of malicious fake installers and “cracked” apps impersonating Ledger Live — only use official downloads and follow Ledger’s published safety guidance when in doubt.
